MacBookPro.new

December 10, 2007

I just got a new Macbook Pro and I'm slightly underwhelmed so far. It didn't have Leopard installed, it has Tiger. Ok, not a big deal, but it is a slight annoyance, considering Leopard has been out for over a month. It did come with the Leopard DVD, so no problem, I'll just install that. So I pop in the DVD, reboot, and we're back to the Welcome to Mac OS X 10.4 screen. :(

Luckily I stumbled across this article the says hold down "C" while it is booting to get it to boot from DVD. Or maybe the command key. Oh, and if that doesn't work, then try Command+Option+Shift+Delete. Huh? I know that white screen that comes up with the grey apple is pretty and everything, but do you think they could have it detect if you have a DVD in the drive, and if so, have it say "Press the Apple Key to boot from DVD"? It's always the little things. Anyway, let's see if I can have Rails running by the end of the night.

Behold, the Intel Mac Mini

March 1, 2006

As predicted, the Intel Mac Mini is out, checking in at $599 for the solo and $799 fro the duo. $1,224 will get you a duo core with 2GB of RAM and 120GB disk. Looks cool, but it's just too pricey. I thought Intel chips were going to make Mac cheaper? Guess not...

The Intel Mac Mini

February 13, 2006

I've been wanting to get a Mac for years now, and I think it may happen soon. I've wanted to buy a mac, but they are just so over-priced. I look at the G5 and think it looks sweet, but then I think to myself that I could build an Intel-based system for a quarter of the price. I'm hoping the switch over to Intel will keep the cost down, but we'll see. Rumor has it that there will be an Intel-based Mac Mini out within the next few months. "Specs are expected to be 1.67GHz Intel Core Solo processor, 512MB RAM, and Front Row." If they can do that with a decently fast hard drive for $499, I'm sold.
